Ranking the 15 Best Years for Comedy Movies


Every year has seen their share of hilarious comedy movies but some are better than others. Its apparent the 1980s was the golden era of comedy films but the 2000s was comparatively hilarious with plenty of great hits in the ’90s as well. Here is how I ranked the 15 best years for comedy movies.

1) 1980


1980 was the creme de la creme of comedy movie years. As the ’80s remains a golden era for comedy movies, 1980 fitting began that tradition like it began the decade. All five of the comedy hits released that year have gone down as five of the funniest comedy movies of all time.

2) 2004


If there was one movie to represent the comedy revival that was the 2000s, it was Anchorman. With hilarious standout performances from Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell, Vince Vaughn and Ben Stiller, its hard to argue 2004 wasn’t one of the funniest years for theater-goers of all time.

3) 1984


If 1980 started the funniest decade in film history, 1984 reminded audiences everywhere that it was no where near being over. Comedy actors had their careers launched to unforeseen heights with the box office hits and cult classics that were released in ’84.

4) 2008

6) 2006

7) 1995


The ’90s era of comedy movies will be remembered by a number hilarious films, a majority of which came from 1995. Audiences were able to witness the outstanding careers of Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, Chris Farley – and even rapper Ice Cube – take off with their first major lead roles in hilarious comedy movies in the same year.

Chevy Chase was clearly a busy man in the ’80s and he proved that in 1985 with two hilarious classics, Fletch and European Vacation. The highlight of ’85 of course was Back to the Future and The Goonies. Two timeless classics in one year.

Although it doesn’t have the most hysterical list, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Crocodile Dundee, iThree Amigos! and even Howard the Duck are comedy movies remembered by all.
