Once again, the South dominates the college baseball regionals but more specifically, the Southeast. North Carolina and Florida both boast three hosts each with UNC, NC State and ECU as well as FSU, Florida and Stetson. Next, South Carolina and Texas occupy two hosts with Clemson and Coastal as well as Texas Tech and Texas with a surprise regional host pick. Arkansas, Ole Miss and Georgia make up the rest of the Southern regional hosts. North Carolina proves it’s not only a basketball state with 7 teams in the regionals. Florida and Texas also prove to be more than just football states with 5 Florida teams and 6 from Texas. All-in-all, 40 of the 64 teams in the regionals are from the South.

Oregon and Stanford once again represent the Pac 12 as well as the entire West Coast. Per usual, the Midwest is sparsely represented. This year, that Midwest team is Minnesota, on behalf of for the Big Ten. It is an interesting year to not see Vanderbilt or Virginia hosting a regional. Vanderbilt is a 2 seed in the Clemson regional while Virginia didn’t even make the tournament. This will be the first time in 8 years the Cavaliers haven’t made the NCAA tournament. Here is a list of conference representatives with at least one host:

Conference Representatives Hosting

  • SEC: 4 hosts, 10 teams
  • ACC: 4 hosts, 6 teams
  • Big 12: 2 hosts, 5 teams
  • PAC 12: 2 hosts, 4 teams
  • American: 1 host, 4 teams
  • Big Ten: 1 host, 4 teams
  • Sun Belt: 1 host
